Rice Owls

It was my grandma's birthday at the beginning of this week, so I decided to make some of these cute little owls to sit in a tree or pot.

You will need~
  • Fabric scraps
  • Felt
  • Buttons
  • Needle and thread and/or sewing machine
  • Rice
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
Here's a pattern for you:

(the wonderful font is called "South of knowing why" and you can download it here)

Basically cut this pattern from two pieces of contrasting fabric you like (it can be resized for any owl) and sew the lab led edges together with a needle and thread or sewing machine right-sides together.

Turn it right-side out and cut a beak from felt, fold the point down half way onto the body and place the beak on top- sew together with a cross stitch onto one side of the body.

Cut two felt circles and pick two buttons, attach these to the face in layers too.

Turn upside down and fill with rice (leave a gap at the top so you can sew it up). Run a gathering stitch (in out, in out) around the edge with a needle and thread, pull shut and tie off.

Glue a larger felt circle to cover the opening.

You're done!

Have an amazing time crafting, I think these make really cute gifts- you could even fill them with dried lavender so they smelled pretty!

xx
