DIY Donut Piñata

As many of you know, I recently had a birthday party! I made this really awesome donut piñata so I thought I'd share the instructions for you all.

You will need:

~ 2 A3 sheets of card (or more, it's up to you!)
~ 1 A3 sheet of paper for making icing
~ Scissors, PVA glue, tape, pencil, ruler
~ Newspaper
~ White paper
~ Brushes
~ Watercolour
~ Acrylic
~ Paper mâché glue (my recipe bellow!)

First cut the card into strips- I think equal strips work best, longer strips create a smaller donut hole eventually. Stick the ends of the strips together to create rings. Cut a slit in one side of every ring and slit the rings together to create a donut shape.

Leave a hole in one end to fill with prizes. I decided to put the party bags in the piñata so each person would know what to grab after we burst it! In my bags, I put; pens, cacti erasers, rubber stamps, felt stickers and gold foil temporary tattoos.

Tear the newspaper to pieces to tape up gaps. Tape everything together to mould it into the best shape possible.

Now it's time to seal your creation. I use packing pellets to make paper mâché- just add about 1 part water to 4 parts pellets, squeeze and mix a bit and it's glue!

Soak strips of newspaper in the glue and cover the whole donut. After that's dried, cover in a layer of white paper.

Paint the donut brown, leaving a rough area white where the icing is going to go, I mixed a lot of water with my paint so the finish looked more uneven and handmade.

Tie whatever you're using tp hang the piñata through the hole. Then cut a large piece of icing shaped paper and decorate with sprinkles (I used watercolours). Attach this to your donut using PVA glue.

Your piñata is complete and ready for bashing!

What's the best decoration you've ever made?

xx
