DIY Donut Earphones

My headphones broke. Well actually they half broke, but listen to really loud music in your right ear and nothing in your left apparently isn't fantastic for your hearing... I know I could've gone out and bought some AmAzINg new headphones at Typo, but I already had this awfully boring (yet full functional) pair of black ones that came with a walkman back in 2000 and something or other. That's where the donut obsession kicks in.

You will need-

  • Old earphones
  • Modeling clay (brown or white)
  • Brown acrylic paint (optional)
  • Paintbrush
  • Blade
  • Coloured pencils
  • Nail polish
  • Superglue

Take a ball of clay the right size for the buds of your earphones. Flatten the top and bottom, then make an indent like a donut hole (I used the end of a pen).

Flip the donut over and on the other side, press in the back of your earphone.

Use the bristles of a paint brush to texture the edges. Then set the clay according to the instructions.

Paint the donut with light brown paint.

Paint the top with nail polish, before it's dry, shave coloured pencil lead using a blade (like scissors) over the "icing".

Finally, use superglue to attach the donuts to the back of your earphones.

I hope you enjoy your new earphones!

xx
