A while ago a saw the most adorable pillows for sale- they looked like a piece of wood! Unfortunately they also were a bit too expensive for me so I decided to make my own instead.
You will need~
- White fabric
- A ruler
- A pencil
- Scissors
- Fabric paint
- Brushes
- A knife (or other thin edged object)
- Needle and thread
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Stuffing
First cut two circles from white material- I traced a record to get the right size.
Then the circles should be painted a pale yellow using a lot of water to give a 'splodgy' effect. (I used "MontMarte" brand fabric paints bought at a local Two Dollar Shop)
Draw on the rings of the tree using a pencil and paint over the lines in a red-brown.
After this is dry, add complimentary lines in a yellow-er brown. Finally coat the edge of a knife in white paint and make thin lines from the centre out to the edge- it doesn't matter if these lines are faint or broken.
Cut a long strip of white material about 15cm wide and long enough to reach around the circumference of the circles plus about 3cm more. This can be painted in a stripy manor using grey, dark brown and red-brown paint.
Once all three parts are dry, sew the edge of the long strip to the circumference of one of the circles with the right sides together. Remember to leave a slight gap at the start in order to sew the seam at the end. After the entire edge has been joined, sew the excess edges of the strip together. Take the second circle and, with the right side facing down, attach this to the edge of the strip.
Don't sew all the way around- leave a gap, then turn the cushion inside-out and stuff as full as you desire. Sew up the small gap by hand and the cushion is complete.
I chose to seal mine with a coat of the fabric medium that came with my other paints. Don't forget to set the paint according to it's instructions before sewing your fabric.
This is a bit of a complicated project but I hope you enjoy it!
Have a lovely weekend
xx
